Hamleys of London Limited, trading as Hamleys, is a British multinational toy retailer, owned by Reliance Retail. Toys R Us and its mascot, Geoffrey the giraffe, have been revived from the dead, and are now part of Macy’s, courtesy of a licensing deal aimed at helping the department store sell more toys.
But Toys R Us’ size – both in global store fleet and massive inventory – eventually contributed to its downfall as the company buckled under billions of dollars of debt.
The online store reopened the following year, and this was followed up with a deal with WH Smith to open up Toys "R" Us branded concessions inside nine WH Smith stores. Following the trial being a success, 39 more concessions will be opening. With the first 17 coming soon and are now on the Toys R Us website.
