The University of Alabama in Huntsville ( UAH) is a public research university in Huntsville, Alabama. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and comprises eight colleges: arts, humanities & social sciences; business; education; engineering; honors; nursing; science; and graduate.

The Charger Orchestra is a full symphonic orchestra, in collaboration with the Charger Band Program as of the academic year of 2012-2013. There are four String groups: Chamber I, Chamber II, Symphony, and Philharmonic. For the last several years [when?], the orchestra has received top honors with all of its groups in UIL evaluation.
UAH has played their home games at Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama since the inception of the program in 1979. The Chargers claim three National Club Championships and two NCAA Division II National Championships in addition to making a pair of appearances in the NCAA Division I men's ice hockey tournament .
The Chargers play their home games in the Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center and compete as an independent. On October 24, 2011, interim UAH President Malcolm Portera announced that the 2011–12 season would be the school's final season competing at the NCAA Division I level, citing financial reasons.
