History of Lego. Lego began in 1932 in the carpentry workshop of Ole Kirk Christiansen, a Danish carpenter. He initially produced furniture but later started making wooden toys. The company was named "Lego" in 1934, a contraction from the Danish phrase "leg godt", meaning "play well". Coincidentally, ‘lego’ means ‘I put together’ in Latin.

History. The Lego company was founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Christiansen, a carpenter whose primary business of producing household goods had suffered due to the Great Depression. Initially producing wooden toys, the company later developed a system of interlocking bricks. Manufacturing of plastic Lego bricks began in Denmark in 1947.
1942: A fire breaks out in the factory, forcing the company to rebuild. 1943: The company grows to 40 employees. 1945: The LEGO wooden Peace Pistol with red wooden projectiles became a huge success. 1947: Ole purchases the first plastic moulding machine in Denmark, and the company begins manufacturing plastic toys.
