La Crosse County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin.At the 2020 census, the population was 120,784. [1] Its county seat is La Crosse. [2] La Crosse County is included in the La Crosse-Onalaska, WI-MN Metropolitan Statistical Area with a population of 170,341 and is the most populous county on Wisconsin's western border.
In 1964 the Miss La Crosse pageant merged with the Miss Oktoberfest pageant to become Miss La Crosse Oktoberfest. [8] In 1968, the title of Mrs. Oktoberfest was created. The first winner was Joyce Lindseth. In 1971 the Festmaster's Grenadier Corps was created to appear at Oktoberfest events along with the royal family. [7]
The La Crosse Convention and Visitors Bureau building is located at the north end of the park. It was originally built in 1924 as a fish control lab. [5] The building was home to the Riverside Museum from 1990 until it moved in February 2020.

French Island Generating Plant is a waste fired electrical power station located on French Island in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Unit 1 and 2 are boiler / steam turbine units originally constructed in the 1940s operating on coal. They were converted to burn oil in the early 1970s. When oil became too costly, alternative fuels were used.
