The church was founded in 1958 as the First Baptist Church of Brookfield, when 30 Christians met at Leland Elementary School in Elm Grove. The next year, Elmbrook called its first salaried pastor, Ted Anderson. In 1963, Pastor Bob Hobson was called to lead the church and the name was changed to Elmbrook Baptist Church.
The church moved to a new 5,000 seat theatre, now its main worship venue, at The Star Performing Arts Centre in one-north on 23 December 2012.. Officially opened on 1 November 2012, The Star PAC spans levels 3 to 11, known as the civic and cultural zone, of the building called The Star.
Then, on June 4, 1990, the church voted to change the name of "Tinley Park Church of Christ" to "Tinley Park Christian Church", thus clearing up some confusion in the community. In 1989, the church was averaging 150 in attendance. Sunday mornings grew to three services. By 2000 the church had grown to 500 in worship attendance.
The church started in 1956 as a mission of Broadway Christian Church in Lexington. The founding pastor, Wayne Smith, came from Unity Christian Church (near Cynthiana, Kentucky), and held the first service with 172 people in attendance.
