Fredericton ( / ˈfrɛ.drɪk.tən /; [8] French pronunciation: [fʁedeʁiktœn]) is the capital city of the Canadian province of New Brunswick. The city is situated in the west-central portion of the province along the Saint John River, also known by its Indigenous name of Wolastoq, which flows west to east as it bisects the city.
In January 1992, the roof of the library collapsed due to the weight of snow. The library was closed until May 1992 for repairs. After 1999, due to a lack of space in the library, discussions began to construct a new library building. The original library was demolished and in 2012 a new library building was opened on the same site.
