Bobby Bowden. Robert Cleckler Bowden ( / ˈbaʊdən /; November 8, 1929 – August 8, 2021) was an American college football coach. Bowden coached the Florida State Seminoles of Florida State University (FSU) from 1976 to 2009 and is considered one of the greatest college football coaches of all time for his accomplishments with the Seminoles.
The 1977 Florida State Seminoles football team represented Florida State University as an independent during the 1977 NCAA Division I football season. Led by second-year head coach Bobby Bowden, the Seminoles compiled a record of 10–2. Florida State was invited to the Tangerine Bowl, where the Seminoles defeated Texas Tech.
The 2009 Florida–Florida State game marked Bobby Bowden's thirty-sixth against the Gators in thirty-four seasons as the Seminoles head coach; it was also his last, as he retired at the conclusion of the 2009 season. He finished his head coaching career with a 17–18–1 record against the Gators.
