Tanzania, [b] officially the United Republic of Tanzania, [c] is a country in East Africa within the African Great Lakes region. It is bordered by Uganda to the northwest; Kenya to the northeast; the Indian Ocean to the east; Mozambique and Malawi to the south; Zambia to the southwest; and Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west.
Tanzania comprises many lakes, national parks, and Africa 's highest point, Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 m or 19,341 ft). Northeast Tanzania is mountainous, while the central area is part of a large plateau covered in grasslands. The country also contains the southern portion of Lake Victoria on its northern border with Uganda and Kenya.

156. Region. Africa. The Serengeti National Park is a large national park in northern Tanzania that stretches over 14,763 km 2 (5,700 sq mi). [1] It is located in eastern Mara Region and northeastern Simiyu Region and contains over 1,500,000 ha (3,700,000 acres) of virgin savanna. The park was established in 1940.
