Prehistory and exploration. The site at the confluence of the Arkansas and Little Arkansas Rivers has served as a trading center and meeting place for nomadic hunting people for at least 11,000 years. [1] Human habitation in the Wichita area has been dated, in archeological digs, as far back as 3,000 B.C. [2]
