On December 11, 2019, FAU announced the hiring of Willie Taggart as the next head coach. During a shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic with no prior spring practice, Taggart led the FAU Owls to a 5–4 record, which includes a loss to the Memphis Tigers in the first and only Montgomery Bowl.
The current head coach of the Owls is Tom Herman, who was hired in December 2022. [1] Through the 2021 season, Florida Atlantic has played 254 games over 21 seasons.
