Craighead County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 111,231. [1] The county has two county seats — Jonesboro and Lake City. [2] Craighead County is Arkansas's 58th county, formed on February 19, 1859, and named for state Senator Thomas Craighead.

On March 24, 1998, a school shooting occurred at Westside Middle School in unincorporated Craighead County, Arkansas near the city of Jonesboro. Alexander Craighead was born in Donegal, Ulster, Ireland on March 18, 1707. [1] He emigrated to North America with his father, the Reverend Thomas Craighead. He died March 1766 in Rocky Creek, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. He was the youngest son of Rev. Thomas Craighead and Margaret Holmes. He was the brother to John Craighead.
