Mary Dyer (born Marie Barrett; c. 1611 – 1 June 1660) was an English and colonial American Puritan -turned- Quaker who was hanged in Boston, Massachusetts Bay Colony, for repeatedly defying a Puritan law banning Quakers from the colony. She is one of the four executed Quakers known as the Boston martyrs .

Biography. "Father" Dyer preached in saloons. Dyer was born in Franklin County, Ohio, spending most his early years in Illinois. He had little formal education and in 1833, married Harriet Foster, moving his family to Wisconsin to work in the lead mines. Sadly, Harriet died when she was 35, and Dyer was left with their five children.
