This form of medical education continued until 1955, when the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) was established on a 164-acre (66 ha) site in Jackson, Mississippi, and the School of Medicine was relocated there. A nursing school was established in 1956 and since then, other health-related schools have been added.

Career. Jones began in private practice in Laurel, Mississippi in 1978. He moved to Pusan, Korea in 1985 as a medical missionary, where he was the director of the community health department and hypertension clinic at the Wallace Memorial Baptist Hospital. He joined the faculty of the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1992.
The University of Mississippi School of Medicine ( UMSOM) is the medical school of the University of Mississippi in the U.S. state of Mississippi . The UMSOM was created in 1903 on the Oxford campus. In 1955, it was moved from the Oxford campus to the state capital of Jackson and was expanded to include the third and fourth years of training.
