In the mid-1950s Roger Milliken , a textile heir, industrialist, businessman (CEO of Milliken & Company ), worked with other Upstate business leaders to get a shared airport for the two cities.

In 2012, the school announced plans to establish a third campus in collaboration with Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama , with classes starting in the fall of 2015.
Early life and personal life. Beatty was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on April 29, 1952 to Arthur and Ruth Beatty. He graduated from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974, and University of South Carolina with a Juris Doctor degree in 1979.
