CBC Radio was introduced on 16 December 1963 as the first wireless radio station in Barbados. Previously, Barbados had a wired cable Rediffusion service from 1935 to 1997. CBC Radio was the only wireless radio station in Barbados until VOB 92.9 FM was introduced with former radio station Gospel 790 AM in 1981.
Originally located at 790 AM, the station was meant to complement the Redifussion service. In the late 1990s Voice of Barbados (VOB) changed to the FM dial, with 790 AM changing format from general to gospel . 790 AM was abandoned when the gospel format was moved to 97.5 FM. Voice of Barbados is now part of the Starcom Network of stations.
Liberty 98.1 FM - AKA "Liberty To Set You Free" now known as The One 98.1 FM. Rediffusion Barbados (Broadcast via cable wires) - Associated-Rediffusion. No longer in operation. Yess FM (Yess 104.1), became Love FM 104.1, became 104.1, and now known as The Beat 104.1. Caribbean Super Station (CSS) now known as Life FM.
Voice of Barbados then at the frequency 790 AM was introduced in 1981, as Barbados' second wireless radio station. Gospel 790 AM became Life 97.5 FM in 2013, also along with the change from 790 AM to VOB 92.9 FM it became as Barbados' fourth FM station.
