The first telephone pager system was patented in 1949 by Alfred J. Gross. One of the first practical paging services was launched in 1950 for physicians in the New York City area.
Motorola PageWriter 2000. The Motorola PageWriter 2000 was a two-way pager introduced in 1998. [1] Featuring the 68000 based Motorola DragonBall processor, 1 MB of internal storage, a four color grayscale screen, IrDA transmitter/receiver, and a full QWERTY keyboard the PageWriter represented a combination of both PDA and pager in one package.

The Motorola Minitor is a portable, analog, receive only, voice pager typically carried by fire, rescue, and EMS personnel (both volunteer and career) to alert of emergencies. The Minitor, slightly smaller than a pack of cigarettes, is carried on a person and usually left in selective call mode.
