WCCA was created in response to an increasing number of requests for court records from district attorneys , sheriffs’ departments, and other court business partners.
Division map. The Wisconsin circuit courts are the general trial courts in the state of Wisconsin. There are currently 69 circuits in the state, divided into 10 judicial administrative districts. Circuit court judges hear and decide both civil and criminal cases. Each of the 249 circuit court judges are elected and serve six-year terms.
The current system was implemented by a 1977 act of the Wisconsin Legislature (1977 Wisconsin Act 187), authorized by an April 1977 referendum to amend the state constitution. The act combined the pre-1978 County Courts with the pre-1978 Circuit Courts to create a single level of trial courts—the present Wisconsin Circuit Courts.
