Gia Long, born Nguyễn Phúc Ánh, was the first emperor of the Nguyễn dynasty, which ruled Vietnam from 1802 to 1945. He reunified Vietnam after the Tây Sơn rebellion and moved the capital to Huế, where he built a palace and fortresses.
