Known for. Painting. William Robinson Thomson RBA, ARCA (born 24 January 1926 [1] – 1988) was a British artist within the Modern British school of the late twentieth century. He is known for his portraiture and paintings of the female nude. Major influences on his work included Rembrandt, Degas and Cezanne.

Thomas John Thomson (August 5, 1877 – July 8, 1917) was a Canadian artist active in the early 20th century. During his short career, he produced roughly 400 oil sketches on small wood panels and approximately 50 larger works on canvas. His works consist almost entirely of landscapes, depicting trees, skies, lakes, and rivers.

Gilpin was born at Scaleby Castle, Cumbria [3] on 4 October 1762, the son of the animal painter Sawrey Gilpin. He attended the school of his uncle, William Gilpin (originator of the Picturesque), at Cheam in Surrey. He married Elizabeth Paddock; they had two (or possibly three) sons, one of whom seems to have remained dependent on his father.
