Saint Paul's was founded in 1906 by Grace Episcopal Church, as a mission to the remote western portion of Burke County. The new parish included a sanctuary, an orphanage and a school . Prior to the establishment of public education throughout the county, Saint Paul's school was the only grade school in the area.

[2] The church was built in 1871, and is a one-story, irregularly massed frame building with multiple gabled wings, and a corner tower.
It is located at the North-Western corner of Raj Bhavan, and served as the Anglican Cathedral of Calcutta till 1847, when the see was transferred to St. Paul's Cathedral. Construction of the building, modelled on St Martin-in-the-Fields of London, [2] started in 1784, with Rs 30,000 raised through a public lottery, [3] and was completed in 1787.
