Susana A. Mendoza (born May 13, 1972) is an American politician. She is the 10th comptroller of Illinois, serving since December 2016.A member of the Democratic Party, she formerly served as Chicago city clerk and as an Illinois State Representative, representing the 1st District of Illinois.
The office has its origins in Article 62 of the Constitution of the Irish Free State of 1922 as implemented by the Comptroller and Auditor-General Act 1923, [3] which provided that the Comptroller and Auditor-General (Irish: Árd-Scrúdóir) (as the office was then known) was to be appointed by Dáil Éireann.
In 1965 the Comptroller's Office hosted V INCOSAI, the fifth triennial convention of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions. [2] The state comptroller is elected by the Knesset in a secret ballot for a single term of seven years. [3] The state comptroller can be relieved only by the Knesset or by resignation or demise.
Alan George Hevesi was born in Manhattan on January 31, 1940, and grew up in Forest Hills, Queens, where he primarily resided for the rest of his life. [2] His parents were Jewish immigrants who left Hungary in 1938 to escape the Nazis. 55 of Hevesi's relatives were murdered in concentration camps. [4]
The comptroller general's office is housed in the Wade Hampton State Office Building. As of May 31, 2023, the agency is staffed by 27 employees. [13] In the event of a vacancy in the office, the General Assembly is empowered by the constitution to appoint a new incumbent.
