Odinga earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nairobi in 1973 when she was 24 years old. [3] [5] While attending the University of Nairobi, she met her future husband, Raila Odinga, who was an employee of the university's Department of Engineering at the time. The 1982 Kenyan coup attempt was a failed attempt to overthrow President Daniel arap Moi's government on 1 August. Led by Kenya Air Force private Hezekiah Ochuka, the coup saw the rebels seize several air bases as well as the headquarters of state radio before they were retaken by government forces, resulting in the coup's failure.
