Lankadeepa (Sinhala: ලංකාදීප) is a daily Sri Lankan Sinhala language newspaper which is owned by Wijeya Newspapers. They were established in 1991. The chairman of the organisation is Ranjith Wijewardene, the son of D. R. Wijewardena. The newspaper's coverage includes politics, sports, entertainment and military.

Lankadeepa. Lankadeepa was a Sinhala language daily newspaper in Ceylon published by Times of Ceylon Limited (TOCL). [1] [2] It was founded on 29 October 1947 and was published from Colombo. [1] [2] [3] Initially an evening paper, it became a morning daily on 1 May 1949. [3] In 1966 it had an average net sales of 56,241. [4]
In that year, he wrote the short story Peethara Mama and won the second place in the international short story competition organized by "Lankadeepa" newspaper. During this tenure, he befriends with W. D. Amaradeva. However, in 1952, he resigned from "Lankadeepa" and joined the editorial board of "Dinamina" paper.
He returned to journalism to found the Lankadeepa, the Sinhala daily which exists to this day as the Sinhala language daily with the largest circulation. Lankadeepa was unique at the time because it was original journalism in Sinhala. At that time the Dinamina which was the only other Sinhala daily was a translation of the Ceylon Daily News.

He was born on 5 July 1947 in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. His father Wimal Weerasinghe was an Editor-in-Chief of Lankadeepa newspaper. He studied science subjects at the Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa in English medium. But after S.W.R.D Bandaranaike made Sinhala as the official language, he lost the school life.
