History. The hospital was established by St Albans Board of Guardians as a workhouse in 1838. [2] It became known as the St Albans Public Assistance Institution in 1930, Osterhills Hospital in 1948 and the St Albans City Hospital in the 1950s. [2] Two wards at the hospital closed in February 2017.
The minor injuries unit was refurbished in November 2003 and a new urgent care centre was established at the hospital in 2015. [3] In 2018 it was proposed the hospital be replaced with a modern treatment centre.
