The original series was broadcast for three seasons by the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) from January 1959 to July 1961.
In 1959, Newland became the host and director of the paranormal television series One Step Beyond. The series ended its run in 1961 and Newland later hosted its short-lived counterpart The Next Step Beyond in 1978.

Like One Step Beyond, the series purported to tell true stories of the supernatural. Unlike the original, this series had a short run of one season of 25 episodes, 14 of which were remakes.
