May 25—KEARNEY, Mo. — Elijah Helberg pitched in the Class 5 state quarterfinal game at Webb City last year for Kearney as a sophomore. Helberg and the Bulldogs were defeated 3-2 in that 2023 game.
MSHSAA's member schools are organized into groups based on enrollment, with Class 1 being the smallest. In 11-man football the largest is Class 6, comprising the largest 32 schools based on enrollment. Schools wishing to play 8-man football must have an enrollment smaller than 200 total students.
The following lists Missouri high schools and the athletic conferences in which they compete. Under the current system used by the Missouri State High School Activities Association some conference member teams may also compete in the same playoff district while others are in districts with non-conference members.

Ozark Conference. The Ozark Conference is a high school athletic conference represented by 11 schools in the southwest portion of Missouri. As the name implies, all eleven schools are in the Ozarks region of the state and all are among the biggest in the region (only West Plains and Hillcrest are not Class 5 in basketball).
