Mong Leng ( Moob Leeg) and Hmong Daw ( Hmoob Dawb) are part of a dialect cluster known in China as Chuanqiandian Miao ( Chinese: 川黔滇苗; lit. 'Sichuan–Guizhou–Yunnan Miao'), called the "Chuanqiandian cluster " in English (or "Miao cluster" in other languages) since West Hmongic is also called Chuanqiandian Miao.

Hmong people have their own terms for their cultural divisions. Hmong Der (Hmoob Dawb), and Hmong Leng (Hmoob Leeg) are the terms for two of the largest groups in the United States and Southeast Asia. These subgroups are also known as the White Hmong, and Blue or Green Hmong, respectively.
