Geography. Ampara District is located in the south east of Sri Lanka in the Eastern Province.It has an area of 4,415 square kilometres (1,705 sq mi). It is located in the Eastern Province, Sri Lanka, about 360 km (224 mi) east of Colombo and approximately 60 km (37 mi) south of Batticaloa .
