Later that decade Globus pioneered the concept of Grand European Touring by offering first-class European tours to North Americans. Cosmos Tours was founded in the UK in 1961 by Sergio Mantegazza . The company was created to provide British customers with affordable package holidays by coach and air travel to Europe.

According to Forbes , Mantegazza was the 16th richest person in Switzerland, with an estimated net worth of US$2.7 billion as of February 2024.
