Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a private, multi-campus university in the municipal town of Thika, Kenya. It was established by Prof. Simon N. Gicharu and has become one of the most significant private universities in Kenya. [2] MKU has a student population of 52,000 as of September 2015. [3] MKU is chartered and ISO 9001:2015 certified.
The university was founded in 2010 by Simon Gicharu, a former teacher, as a campus of Mount Kenya University. [1] It was renamed as Mount Kigali University in 2023 after receiving a Charter [2] from the Higher Education Council of Rwanda. The university is named after Mount Kigali, a 1,853 metres (6,079 ft) hill in the west of Kigali city.

Mount Kigali or Mont Kigali in French, is a hill in Kigali City, Rwanda, [2] after which the city was named. Mount Kigali is located directly West of the city center in Nyarugenge District. The majority of Nyarugenge District is located on the slopes of Mount Kigali. The western slopes of Mount Kigali end in the valley of the river Nyabarongo.
