Alger County (/ ˌ æ l dʒ ər / AL-jər) is a county in the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census , the population was 8,842. [2] It is the state's second-largest county by area, including the waters of Lake Superior .

Albert E. Sleeper was born in Vermont in 1862. He moved to Lexington, Michigan in 1884, and in 1904 relocated to Bad Axe. Sleeper served as a state senator from 1901 to 1904, as state treasurer from 1908 to 1912, and as governor from 1917 to 1920. [2] Sleeper began work on this house in Bad Axe in 1916, finishing it in 1917.
12 mi (19 km) north of Marquette on Granite Island. 46°43′15″N 87°24′43″W. / 46.720833°N 87.411944°W / 46.720833; -87.411944 ( Granite Island Light Station) Marquette. The Granite Island Light was built in 1868 and commissioned in 1869. It is one of the oldest surviving lighthouses on Lake Superior.
John Rayner House. / 42.57833°N 84.43139°W / 42.57833; -84.43139 ( John Raynor House) The John Rayner House is a single-family house located at 725 East Ash Street in Mason, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. [1] It is one of the earliest structures existing in Mason.
