Howard Melville Hanna was born on January 23, 1840, in New Lisbon, Ohio. [1] His older brother Mark Hanna served as Republican United States Senator from Ohio from 1897 to 1904 and was the owner of the M. A. Hanna Company. He moved to Cleveland, Ohio with his family at the age of twelve. [1]
When Bay Village opened, it adjoined the Lucy Evelyn, a 3 masted schooner that had been set on land and turned into a gift shop and museum. The Lucy Evelyn, 140' long with a 32' beam and 10' draft, built in 1917 in Harrington, Maine, burned to the ground in January 1972. It was replaced by a building that resembles a schooner.
