Many communities within the Cincinnati – Northern Kentucky metropolitan area are considered by local residents to be neighborhoods or suburbs of Cincinnati, but do not fall within the actual city limits, Hamilton county boundaries, or even within Ohio state borders.
In 1800, there were about 30 buildings and a population of 750 people. Cincinnati began with the settlement of Columbia, Losantiville, and North Bend in the Northwest Territory of the United States beginning in late December 1788. The following year Fort Washington, named for George Washington, was established to protect the settlers.
The Cincinnati–Wilmington, OH–KY–IN Combined Statistical Area, adds Clinton County, Ohio (defined as the Wilmington, OH micropolitan area) and, until 2023, Mason County, Kentucky (defined as the Maysville, KY micropolitan area), was part of the CSA. [7] The Cincinnati metropolitan area is considered part of the Great Lakes Megalopolis.
