Steve & Barry's store, a former Mervyn's, at West Oaks Mall, Houston, Texas, demolished in 2011 for Edwards Theaters which is now closed. White Front was a chain of discount department stores in California and the western United States from 1959 through the mid-1970s. The stores were noted for the architecture of their store fronts which was an enormous, sweeping archway with the store name spelled in individual letters fanned across the top.
Certainly Mervyn's venture-capital ownership, Cerberus Capital Management and Sun Capital Partners, aren't above making money from the frustrated. But in this case, they are mostly innocent.
