The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB, known as English-language Separate District School Board No. 40 prior to 1999 [3]) is an English -language public-separate school board for Toronto, Ontario, Canada, headquartered in North York. [4] It is one of the two English boards of education serving the city of Toronto.
The Metropolitan Separate School Board required any potential student to have at least one French-speaking parent before being admitted to a French-speaking school. One of the francophone schools operated by the board was the Ecole Sacre Coeur, which first opened in 1891 in a building basement and moved to its own facility in 1896.
The school was named after Saint John Bosco since 1978. During the 2000s up to 2013, the school was known for having former Toronto mayor Rob Ford as its school coach. In 2014, Don Bosco adopted a Self-Directed Learning program, similar to that of Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School in Scarborough, becoming only the second such school in the GTA and third in Ontario to do so.

As the school was grown to over 1,000 students with some settling in portables, the MSSB leased the former Melody Public School on Strathburn Blvd., on the north-eastern corner of Wilson and Weston, and designated the school as the "South Campus" for a short time. The MSSB received funding from the province to rebuild St. Basil in 1993.
On January 1, 1998, the MSSB became the Toronto Catholic District School Board. In 2011, the Loretto Sisters agreed to a sale of the entire Abbey to the TCDSB, with the exception of the infirmary, and this will greatly increase the space available for classrooms and other facilities. [ 3 ]
