Lenoir County (/ lɛˈnɔːr / le-NOR) [ 1 ] is a county in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, its population was 55,122. [ 2 ] Its county seat is Kinston, [ 3 ] located on the Neuse River, across which the county has its territory. Lenoir County comprises the Kinston, NC Micropolitan Statistical Area.
North Lenoir High School. North Lenoir High School is a public high school in La Grange, North Carolina serving grades 9–12. [1][2] It was created as part of school consolidation of Contentnea, Wheat Swamp and La Grange schools in 1964. [3] The school reports 100 percent of its students are economically challenged. [4]
The Hibriten High School Symphonic Band is the main band of the school. It was established in 1966. [ 4 ] As of Spring 2017, the bands (both symphonic and concert bands) have accumulated fifty-three superior ratings (21 consecutive by the symphonic band from 1994 to 2014), with most of them in Grade VI music (the most difficult level).
Kinston High was built in 1970 as an integrated high school to serve the city. The International Baccalaureate program started at Kinston High during the 2003–2004 school year. In fall 2004, Kinston High School was the first school in Lenoir County to start up a program called Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID).
In 1926, the Deep Run School was built for grades 1–12. The spirit colors were red and white. The mascot was the state bird, the cardinal. In 1964, the county's schools consolidated and Deep Run closed and was reopened at South Lenoir for high school students in Lenoir County south of the Neuse River.
