Nichols) who owned one of the largest dry & fancy goods stores in 19th century Bangor. The E.C. Nichols Co. store was on Main Street, across the Kenduskeag Stream from the site of the 1892 Nichols Block.
Added to NRHP. December 22, 1978. The Gen. John Williams House is a historic house at 62 High Street in Bangor, Maine. Built in the early 1820s, it is believed to be the oldest brick house in the city, and one of its only examples of Federal architecture. It was built by John Williams, a leading businessman and militia commander of the period.
E.H. Gerrish Canoe Company. cover of E.H. Gerrish catalog dated 1898. E.H. Gerrish (1847–1930) is credited with being the first person to sell wood-canvas canoes commercially. From 1882 to 1909, Gerrish built and sold canoes from a shop in Bangor, Maine. Early Gerrish canoes contain elements of the birchbark canoes upon which they were based.
