The origin of the Los Gatos Historic Commercial District can be traced back to 1863 when W. S. McMurtry and J. W. McMillan inaugurated a general store on Main Street, situated to the east of Los Gatos Green near the mill. In 1864, an official post office was established, marking a pivotal development.
