In October 2009, a report published by the Government-supported UK Energy Research Centre, following 'a review of over 500 studies, analysis of industry databases and comparison of global supply forecasts', concluded that 'a peak in conventional oil production before 2030 appears likely and there is a significant risk of a peak before 2020'.

According to their peer-reviewed report, oil production in 2030 would not exceed 75 million barrels per day (11.9 × 10 ^ 6 m 3 /d) while the IEA forecasts a production of 105 million barrels per day (16.7 × 10 ^ 6 m 3 /d).
