Established in 2002, Jaypee University of Information Technology is one of the four universities established by the Jaypee Group under their not-for-profit trust, Jaiprakash Sewa Sansthan .
The institute was founded in 2001 by Jaypee Group and commenced its operation in the start of academic year in July 2001. Initially it was affiliated to the state university Jaypee University of Information Technology, Waknaghat and started offering only diploma courses. By 1 November 2004, it was declared as a Deemed University by UGC.
Currently it is the largest public research university in Bangladesh, with a student body of 46,150 and a faculty of 1,992. It has made significant contributions to the modern history of Bangladesh. After the Partition of India, it became the focal point of progressive and democratic movements in Pakistan.
