The National Merit Scholarship Program is a United States academic scholarship competition for recognition and university scholarships. The program is managed by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), a privately funded not-for-profit organization based in Evanston, Illinois. [1] The program began in 1955.
The National Merit corporation will announce its 2,500 National Merit Scholarship winners on May 8. Winners of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards will be announced later on June 5 and July 15.
The Morehead-Cain Scholarship (originally the Morehead Scholarship) was the first merit scholarship program established in the United States.
