It is home to one of the largest and oldest collections in Sri Lanka, with its roots dating back to 1870 with the establishment of the library of the Ceylon Medical College .

The Postgraduate Institute of Medicine ( PGIM) of the University of Colombo is the graduate school that provides specialist training and board certification of medical doctors in Sri Lanka.
