The University of New Mexico (UNM; Spanish: Universidad de Nuevo México) [6] is a public research university in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Founded in 1889 by the New Mexico Territorial Legislature, it is the state's second oldest university, the flagship university in the state, [7][8] and the largest by enrollment, with 22,630 students in 2023.
The school was established in 1961 by the Regents of the University of New Mexico. The first class was admitted in 1964, and the school graduated its first class in 1968.
