Nation Center, headquarters of the Nation Media Group who publish the Daily Nation. The Daily Nation was started in the year 1958 as a Swahili weekly called Taifa by the Englishman Charles Hayes. It was bought in 1959 by the Aga Khan, and became a daily newspaper, Taifa Leo (Swahili for "Nation Today"), in January 1960.
The group publications include The EastAfrican, Daily Nation, Business Daily Africa, Daily Monitor, The Citizen, NMG Investor Briefing, Taifa Leo and Zuqka. The Daily Nation and the Sunday edition of the same newspaper, the Sunday Nation, celebrated their 50th anniversaries, branded by the Nation Media Group as "50 Golden Years", in 2010.
It was sold to Kenyan investors in 1995. In 2004 the name was changed back to The Standard. It is the main rival to Kenya's largest newspaper, the Daily Nation. In 1989, at a time when Kenya was going into multi-party era, the Standard Group acquired the KTN Television Channel. It is the oldest newspaper published in Kenya.
