Carroll County is a county in the northwestern part of Georgia, adjacent to Alabama. It was named for Charles Carroll of Carrollton, the last surviving signer of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, and has a history of gold mining, Civil War, and natural disasters.
In 1954, a new building was built for grades 8-12 and was named George Washington Carver High School while the adjacent Carroll County Training School, becoming a feeder elementary school, was renamed "Alabama Street Elementary". Carver had an initial enrollment of around 600, which remained fairly constant until the school closed.
Carrollton is a city and the county seat of Carroll County in northwest Georgia, near the Alabama state line. It has a history of agriculture, textile, and education, and is home to the University of West Georgia and Southwire Company.
