In 1925, the North Shore is the setting of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby, which centers on the area's wealth and the aspiration of the title character to be accepted into its high society. The novel's "West Egg" and "East Egg" were fictionalized versions of the real North Shore villages of Kings Point and Sands Point, respectively.
City National Bank of Florida was established in 1946 when Leonard L. Abess, Sr., Max Orovitz, and Baron de Hirsch Meyer founded the North Shore Bank on 71st Street in Miami Beach.
