It's in the history section; the NAIAS name was first used in 1989. The official website used to have a history page (I'll have to change the reference to it to a Wayback Archive link). I haven't found any evidence that the show ever was called "North American Auto Show", at least not officially.
The New York International Auto Show is an annual auto show that is held in Manhattan, New York City in late March or early April. It is held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center . It usually opens on or just before Easter weekend and closes on the first Sunday after Easter.
