History. Comal was established on the Old San Antonio Road in 1846 and soon became a station on the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad at the turn of the 19th century. From the 1980s through 2000, the community's population was 40, who either farmed, ranched, or worked in a nearby quarry. [2] It is also home to a St. Joseph's Church and cemetery.
