Apple has been scanning iCloud Mail for CSAM information starting 2019. On August 5, 2021, Apple confirmed it has planned to started scanning iCloud Photos for the same reason.  After receiving a public backlash against Apple scanning private photos, Apple announced it will collect further input before releasing new functionality.
