Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, the University of Tampa, Florida College in Temple Terrace, and Trinity College in New Port Richey are all four-year institutions located in the area. Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University and Troy University also maintain satellite education centers at MacDill AFB.
A tornado in New Port Richey tore parts of the roof off at least one building and brought down trees, and tornadic activity was also identified in Sumter County.
